Sheltered From The Storm

The maple tree stood majestically in the field alone. thistles grew here and there, and Queen Ann's Lace flowed across the knoll. Here and there Black Eyed Susans intermingled with wild mustard, and Daisies spotted the landscape. The tall grasses flowed back and forth in the gentle summer breeze.
Above the sky was taking on an ominous glow, black clouds rolled in from the north as the wind began to blow with fierce repetition. Lightentng bolted from the sky in regular intervals, and the first of many drops of rain began fall. Far off in the distance you could see her, just a speck at first. She seemed to be trying to beat the storm, as she had a destination in mind. She flew as fast as she could towards the Maple tree.
Having reached her destination, she began to sing. From inside the tree, came the soft sounds of chirping. silently she flew to the nest, and having done what she had to do, she settled gently on top of her brood. Softly spreading her down feathers, she encased her young in the warmth of her body, protecting them from the rain. She closed her eyes and slept, safely sheltered from the storm.
