Not Stuck on Stanza

Story ID:629
Written by:jim rambo
Story type:Poem
Location:Ajijic Jalisco Mexico
Year:2006
Are you like me
Can't quite get poetry?
Or a poet, one of those
Not liking most prose?

Now don't take me wrong
I enjoy a lyric, I love a good song.
But odes and meter
Leave me atwitter almost never.

Are you beginning to rise in your seats
To defend Emerson, Longfellow, maybe Keats?
Past loves, Gods, Goddesses and faraway tribes
Inhabiting the lines of each of these scribes.

Well, save your time. Remain where you are
Several others will beat you by far.
You know, none of the themes are in popular media
No, poetry's fans run to the encyclopedia.

The answer must be that, clearly, I'm lazy
At my age that's why it's all still quite hazy.
So I'll plod on tomorrow, still dazzled by prose.
As for the poets, I'll not be their fair rose.

My fate accepted, I'll reject all their bidding
As for you, my good reader, c'mon
You know I'm just kidding!
OurEcho is a FREE SERVICE dedicated to capturing and sharing the individual "bits and pieces" that define our local communities. It might be a bit of interesting local history, an old photograph, a special memory or just a funny story. We are particularly interested in those fascinating and intriguing events/people (both large and small) that we all encounter as part of the human experience. It might be something that happened recently or something passed down to you through your family. Our goal is to provide a forum for local communities to share who they are through their stories and photographs. When you take the time to share these reflection with others, you help us better understand you, the world we live in, and if we are lucky, they help us better understand ourselves.
