What A Boy!

Story ID:4020
Written by:Susan Hammett Poole
Story type:Poem
Location:Vidalia GA USA
Year:1999
Person:my nephew, Luke
What A Boy!

He was a tender reed of a boy
Easily bruised
Tiny at birth and not healthy as some
But full of pluck all his life

Creative with his Legos
Artistic in his drawings
Mischief twinkled in his hazel eyes
And his brave heart was pure

He was five when he told his mother
He wanted to have Jesus live in his heart
His prayer that day was complete
Ask, seek, knock and the King of Glory shall come in

Who would know then that eight years later
This child would be heralded by angels
And welcomed Home by God
Leaving behind a father and a mother
A sister, brother and others
To mourn his passing, hearts grief-stricken

His name means "Luminous, Bringer of Light"
Mightily loved and beautiful to those of us who knew him
He was our bright, precious Luke
Here far too briefly, but oh,
What a boy!

OurEcho is a FREE SERVICE dedicated to capturing and sharing the individual "bits and pieces" that define our local communities. It might be a bit of interesting local history, an old photograph, a special memory or just a funny story. We are particularly interested in those fascinating and intriguing events/people (both large and small) that we all encounter as part of the human experience. It might be something that happened recently or something passed down to you through your family. Our goal is to provide a forum for local communities to share who they are through their stories and photographs. When you take the time to share these reflection with others, you help us better understand you, the world we live in, and if we are lucky, they help us better understand ourselves.
