This was originally a post from my blog, I felt it important as I have witnessed men being "gentle giants" with their children, and as my father was and still is this is -a tribute to all "gentle giants" and saintly fathers everywhere. Happy Fathers Day. Happy St. Father's Day! Huh?
In thinking of my last blog about the new mother Robin out in the yard and all that she does for her impending little ones to come, I was out and was witnessing a full out temper tantrum in progress at the local food store. Family of five (3 tots approx. age 6 or less), shopping with Daddy, wow, he was like a fish out of water in the extremely crowded store. Each child hanging on the basket and each child in different levels of stress and mom not currently with them. I could not help but to watch as I was shopping for my grocery. His cart began to get full as was mine, when we finally got to the section where the floral department was. Spring flowers everywhere and of course all things for St. Patrick's Day. When the father stopped his cart, and handed each child a flower out of the container in front of him And began to explain who St. Patrick was, and what he did. I was amazed. The children stopped moaning and groaning, and crying. There were smiles on their faces, with flower in hand the gentle father gave each a kiss on the cheek, and headed to the checkout lane.
I was touched at the kindness and restraint shown by the father at the store. The patience he showed to his children will stay with them and perhaps when each will grow into adulthood they will be more able to cope and to deal with stressful situations. God Bless him! Happy St. Patrick's Day.
