It is great to be a Mother!

Maybe it is not the greatest thing to just to be a mother, but to be the Mother of six wonderful siblings is the greatest. It all started on Thursday when I enjoyed a great visit from Cindy, she had came by to plant some beautiful flowers in my empty pots on our patio. First she planted bright colored ‘pinks’ with white ruffled edges filled the redwood planter that has our name carved across the top board so all would know they had the right house.

In a large two foot tall, dark, brown plastic pot Cindy set out miniature zinnias in variety of shades of white, yellow and orange. Then she planted some vivid red tobacco plants in the ivory colored pot to attract the humming birds when they migrate through our area. All in our entire patio is now a colorful place to read, write or show off to our friends and neighbors.

Last night I had a long visit by telephone with our daughter, Ginger who lives in Florida. We caught up with all the news from both ends of the line. What we were both writing about and I let her know what her brother and sisters were up to, here in Kansas.

Today began with an e-mail from Cindy that made me cry because she thinks I have been a better mother than I ever dreamed of and reminded me that we were both middle daughters. It was so sweet. Then close to lunchtime our oldest daughter, Susan drove in bringing our son, Owen and his wheelchair. She also brought a crock-pot full of a roast with potatoes, carrots, onions and tasty brown gravy. We finished the feast with strawberry shortcake, which happens to be Owen and my favorite.

Another daughter, Karen came by with Mother Day gifts of a shoulder bag made just for my camera that I received for Christmas from my husband. It has room for everything connected with taking photos. She thoughtfully brought me a new heating pad for my aching back. Oh, my I will enjoy that. Karen also brought a framed photo of our granddaughter, Chhaya Ruth and her violin. She is graduating from the El Dorado High School this next Sunday. Stopping by for a chat with all the family was my computer tech grandson, Paul who keeps my computer and me doing our best.

So much talking, eating and togetherness made it a great Mother’s Day Week and someone even washed the dishes. What more could an 83 year old mother want from her family?

The last photo is of Owen’s 5th grade art project in 1957.
