I’ve been in management for so long now that I do not know how to keep things simple. The “management gurus” have taught me well. So have my bosses. So if I have to excuse myself to make a quick visit to the restroom, all I can think of saying is that – “Performance pressure has affected me badly and hence I need a quick reprieve before an appraisal”
This is wreaking havoc in my life. I seem to have lost the ability to express myself in plain, simple terms.
After my visit to the restroom, it’s most likely that I quip to my fellow boardroom members that the paradigm has shifted. And that it happened so quickly that I feel a lot lighter.
I knew the affliction has caught me severely when I did a “SWOT” to justify purchase of salt. My better half had mismanaged the usage of salt (in her own little production unit she’s so proud of) and soon we found ourselves in short supply.
She is an expert in crisis management as she finds herself dealing with several in a day.
This time around, I had to pitch in with my expertise in supply chain management. Whenever there is problem I am always around with my ingenious solutions and unsolicited advice. I did a quick calculation and found that plain salt is equivalent to the branded ones in terms of strength but lack of iodine that could prevent goiter is definitely a Weakness.
The savings derived from a low price point is an Opportunity I cannot afford to miss. But the Threat of goiter cannot be ignored either.
While I was pondering on the merits and de-merits of branded vis-à-vis plain salt, my ‘better’ (that’s a constant source of dialogue and debate) half, set a timeline and deadline for my project. That did it. I risked Goiter and purchased the plain one.
My better half disagreed quite vehemently. She had a problem with the flow-ability.
And the undignified behaviour the plain salt exhibits on the dining table.
This was just an illustration of how things can be. I went my management guru and he recommended that I read a lot of a blogger who goes by the name “poetBittersweet” he told me that this chap can give tips on how to keep things simple.
Anyway, that can happen later. When I find the time. Right now I have bigger worries on my head. My personal transportation is faced with a performance issue, that needs to be sorted out immediately.
The balance of power has shifted – yes – a paradigm shift – and now the vehicle is showing a definite inclination to the left. I must employ some performance enhancers
And boost the pressure to 30ps. Only then will stability be achieved.
Now I need to find a solution to this vexing problem. I must exert sufficient pressure on the posterior end of the car till it achieves a certain velocity, (exactly like start-up companies).
Till I get an expert to fill up the air that is lost in the tyre, I must push! Hey that was simple.
I just started reading “Bittersweet’ and so much change, already?
A paradigm shift? Naah. I must think of a simpler term.
