LIGHT VERSE

PRIORITY

The game raged on. The score was tied
When in the midst, my loved one cried,
"Hey, whatcha got for me to eat?
A hamburger would be a treat."

I fixed his snack with loving care
But tripped and fell behind his chair.
He muttered as he snatched the bun,
"I'll pick you up at half time, hon."

OUTWITTED

These days my mirror shows within,
Assorted lines and creases.
With sagging face and double chin
All thought of glamour ceases.

But do I frown and bow my head
In middle-aged dejection?
Ah, no, I work a charm instead
To alter my reflection.

To see the mirror show my face
As lovely as a lass's
Deny my years, each line erase
I just take off my glasses.

CLASS OF '36.

A face lift? No, no time for that.
A fresh hairdo, a brand new hat
To see you after thirty years?
Would you recall the fight, the tears,
The picnic and a college dance,
The English class, a brief romance?

I mused you'd say, "You're gorgeous still.
This day an unexpected thrill."
You looked at me. Your gaze was bland.
You smiled, politely shook my hand.
You said, "We've met before? It's so?
Hmm, yes. Well, well, what do you know?"

I came back home, kicked off my shoes
Turned on the tube and watched the news.
OurEcho is a FREE SERVICE dedicated to capturing and sharing the individual "bits and pieces" that define our local communities. It might be a bit of interesting local history, an old photograph, a special memory or just a funny story. We are particularly interested in those fascinating and intriguing events/people (both large and small) that we all encounter as part of the human experience. It might be something that happened recently or something passed down to you through your family. Our goal is to provide a forum for local communities to share who they are through their stories and photographs. When you take the time to share these reflection with others, you help us better understand you, the world we live in, and if we are lucky, they help us better understand ourselves.
