My Stubborn Little Crocuses
In the middle of a cold, snowy day in February, my spirits lift as I gaze out my south window. There are pale, violet flowers scattered across the yard, blooming in the snow.
Each night they close up as if they had spent their life in that one day in a burst of glory.
The next day when the sun was shining they opened up again. This happens day after day for a couple of weeks no matter what kind of weather Kansas throws at them. Snow, freezing rain, sleet, wind and just freezing, if the sun comes out so do my crocuses in full bloom again.
The sun has the same effect on me as it does on my earliest spring flower. I feel empowered to shine and make things around me do the same. Everyone should have some crocus bulbs that bravely show Mother Nature that it is time to bring a smile to the winter weary people of Kansas.
