Cactus Blossoms In The Moon Light

The sun has set, the heat has subsided,
Cool air brushes across the expance of barren soil.
Here and there cactus stand at attention,
As if reaching for the Heavens.
Stars flicker in the dark blue black sky.
A full moon blazes across the desert floor.

An owl peeks from within the security of the hole, built within the cactus.
His eye's flicker in the moons stream of light.
Blossoms open, grasping for whatever dampness
That Heaven has sent it's way.
A scorpion darts across the sand in shear abandonment.

The owl watches from his post, for any movement
That might suggest food.
Clouds brush the midnight sky's with gauzy
drifts of grey sheer vapors,
Powder puffs blown by time across the heavens.
Blossoms drink in the dampness, in the cold
Drifts of air as the sun peaks above the range
Of mountains.

The sun rises bringing the heat to the morning air.
The mountains, grasping colors from the sun.
Rust, brown, black, purple, grey, all these colors can be seen.
As the sun glazes across the crags and crevasses.
Shadows form as the colors blend, bleeding down the mountain.

Blossoms close for the day, having satisfied their thirst once more.
The owl sleeps in the safety of his home,
The scorpion will be seen no more.
