Mansion On The Hill

Story ID:1074
Written by:Darrell Lindsey
Story type:Poem
Location:Nacogdoches Texas USA
Year:1964
Person:mother

It's knowin' someone might hold me
that keeps me from growin' colder than I am
it's the hope of findin' a feelin'
that ain't bound by a dollar bill
it's the notion of kindness
that transcends the problems
of a troubled mind
that keeps me dreamin' on a grand scale
till love is my mansion on the hill.

It's the blowin' of the spring wind
that wakes up my memories
and finds the best there is in me
it's the growin' of my mind's garden
after prayin' for some wet ground to till
it's the ocean of forgiveness
that flows when I admit I'm sometimes wrong
that keeps me believin' the land
the land won't be parched
when love is my mansion on the hill.

It's knowin' there's a good woman
wantin' an affectionate touch
it's the hope she's got compassion
to match the allure of the thrill
it's the notion of heart healin'
that makes me look upward to the Lord
that keeps me dreamin' on a grand scale
till I'm livin' in His mansion on the hill.
OurEcho is a FREE SERVICE dedicated to capturing and sharing the individual "bits and pieces" that define our local communities. We are particularly interested in those fascinating and intriguing events/people (both large and small) that we all encounter as part of the human experience. It might be something that happened recently or something passed down to you through your family. Our goal is to provide a forum for local communities to share who they are through their stories and photographs. When you take the time to share these reflection with others, you help us better understand you, the world we live in, and if we are lucky, they help us better understand ourselves.
