I believed in you

I believed we were meant to be,
and I promised you my heart
I swore to the heavens
to love you forever
the wind took my words
“ What fate has woven together,
let no obstacles tear apart”
Then it whipped them back at me
We destroyed our love
and almost our own selves
I promised you my heart
but instead you took my soul
I did not even realize until
it was almost too late
Nothing about me was ever
enough for you
and I believed I was wrong
so I tried to make you love me
by changing who I was
again and again I failed
to accept myself for who
I was meant to be
you never even tried
now you say you love me
how can that be true?
Without you I am strong
my heart and soul are mine
my weaknesses are forgiven
my mistakes are lessons learned
I am the vessel fate intended
she learned her lesson too
