Me

Memories of the person
I wanted to be hiding
Behind dreams hanging
Just out of reach showing
Glimpses of the future
I wanted to give
To the children
Who learn from the
Mistakes that I made
Because I was afraid
Of failing so I never
Tried to be the person
That I should have been
If I had only reached
For the dreams that
I held in my heart
Hidden behind who I
Used to be before
You convinced me that
I was actually no one that
Mattered unless I could
Somehow make myself into
The person you wanted me
To be someone else should
Have been the woman I was
Supposed to have been
If only I had believed
In myself and not in
Your lies convinced me
That I was unworthy of
Love and respect would
Have helped me to teach
These children that they too
Are deserving of love and
Respect are gifts we are given
To share with ourselves and
With others I pretended
That I knew who I was
Wrong to believe that I
Was happy to be whom
I was intended to be
Better at being myself
