Inch by Inch, Row by Row

That's how the old song goes, "Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make garden grow." Well I'm planting my new garden at work after the advent of Tornado M******.

I was in despair up until the moment I walked into work Monday morning, the first day with our new supervisor. I didn't know how was going to endure working directly with a person who has been abusive to us all in the past. But either I had more inner reserves than I suspected or God knows how much I need to keep my job and walked through the day with his hand on my shoulder.

She is full of questions, which since we are all still grieving for lost boss/friend, are like sticking pins in our sensitive souls. We suspect criticism in each query. And she is always there. She seems to hang with me quite a bit. At the end of the day I was looking forward to going into our decontamination area for the last two hours of my shift. She was still asking me questions and I asked (joking of course) if she was coming in to decontam with me. And she did! Arrggh! But determined to make the best of it, I decided to show her what our life was really like and how the things that OR was supposed to do and didn't had a negative impact on our work load. I planned on really giving her an eye-ful and a workout!

And it worked like a charm. The next day all she could talk about was how hot it was in there, how busy we had been and how much she hurt. Plus she got to first hand view a large sampling of OR stupidities.

It's a beginning...
