August 17, 2005 Blindsided Unbelievable! Unbelievable!! I hate being blind-sided! I hate it. I like being in control. I like my world and I like my people and I hate it when the world not only betrays you but jumps up and down on you with big waffle-stomper hiking boots. Yes this morning was a waffle-stomper morning for everyone at my work. The manager above our department came into our work area at shift change time and told us that as of today our supervisor was no longer supervisor of our department. She couldn't tell us what happened, which translates to W***** talk for she's been fired. Duh, are we stupid or what?! Then she follows up by saying "Will this affect your jobs? Absolutely not." Please (written with much sarcasm) apparently she at least thinks we are stupid. Then, oh my God, I can't believe how angry the next thing she said made me. She said, "I understand this is upsetting and you will all be worried about what this means to you." I'm worried about the gentle woman that worked in this department for thiry years and listened to everyone's complaints and kept everyone's secrets. Who stood up for us when everyone else would rather blame us. Who believed that we were doing the best that we could do. The woman who has diabetes and back problems, a funny husband, a daughter who takes pictures and one who is a nurse. A woman who is our friend as well as our boss. None of us could even look at each other all day without starting to cry. |
