SHE’S BEEN LIEING

She’s been lying there awake,
waiting for him to get home
thinking it’s some mistake,
all these nights she spends alone,
not knowing where he’s gone
or if he’s coming back at all
what could take this long?
Why doesn’t he just call?
She’s been lying to herself
she knows where he’s been
she even knows his someone else
that pretends to be her friend
but she’s not waiting any more
she’s not pretending to believe
and that sound of a slamming door
is her admitting the strength to leave
