Listen to voice recording:
My family’s first car was a 1933 Desoto - as long as this room is. It was a huge vehicle. We kept it until 1938.
And then we bought a ‘36 - used obviously - a ‘36 Pontiac which we ran because no cars came out of Detroit in the war years.
There were a few ‘42's because they were started in ‘41. But, there were no ‘43 or 4’s or 5’s. They would go from ‘42 to ‘46 typically.
Obtainig a car required putting your name on the list. Rumor was of course you could grease the palm of the guy with the list and get your car a little sooner.
There was a huge market for them in ‘45 - Desotos I mean - these are long since discontinued.
