My Grandmotther, Mary Gullatt, was the class poet of the Class of 1927, Judson College, Marion, Alabama. The attached picture is from the 1924. It's hard to get a feel for the scale, but the picture is over 3 feet wide.
Her Class Poem:
It is with sorrow that we leave thee, Judson.
We love thy shade, thy name, thy blessed influence over us.
How sweet have been the days we spent with thee,
Those hours of tears and laughter,
Those hours of work and play!
Friends eternal we have made, and
Our hearts are sore to leave them and thee,
The scene of our friendships.
We are grateful for thy guidance,
For the happy life on thy campus,
For the lessons we have learned,
Never shall we forget them.
To live by them shall be our aim.
Judson, beloved mother of our hope!
We ask of thee one boon – remembrance –
That not as a pebble dropped into the surf shall our name be,
But as a tree whose branches give shelter to the weary,
Whose fruit gratifies the hungry,
Whose growth upward inspires the faint-hearted,
So would this class of ’27 life,
As thou hast taught us.
And always shall our prayers rise for thee
That thou mayst bear forever a spotless name
And so we say with grateful tears,
Farewell!
