Totally out of control. That must be what he feels. Dependant on everything and everyone. Dependant on his wife for attention, love, food, walks to the bathroom and other necessary care. Dependant on the doctors and nurses for health care and medicine. Dependant on a tiny needle in his arm --- hoping against hope that it will take some of the pain away. Dependant on his friends to visit short visits of caring. Dependant on all of the medicine to bring relief. Dependant on his daughter and grandsons to bring him more love and understanding. Dependant on the minister to bring him the Word of God and the Holy Sacraments. Dependant --- everyone controlling him.

But the pain controls them all, coming and going at its own bidding.
