A Tiny Candle

"Neither do men light a candle,
and put it under a bushel,
but on a candlestick;
and it giveth light unto all
that are in the house."

Matthew 5:16

A Tiny Candle
©2004, Janet K. Poludniak

A tiny candle
in a brightened space
is hardly seen
when it takes its place.

If the other lights
should choose to go,
then the one remaining
shares a pleasant glow.

But if all the little
lights depart,
the comparative darkness
can darken a heart.

Now a tiny candle,
burning bright,
conquers darkness
with its light . . .

and everybody
turns to see
from whence the light
has come to be.

So if you're in
a cold, dark space,
just shine brightly!
You'll light the place.
