HEY, DOG RIVER!

HEY, DOG RIVER!

DEDICATED TO
The Most Wonderful Dad in The World
On the Occasion Which Would Have Been
His 94th. Birthday, APRIL 30,2006

~^*HEY, DOG RIVER! *^~

Dog River you roll
through the years
and I know
Multitudes have stood
by your banks
and looked on
They admired your great beauty,
your clearness and calm
But when they looked closer,
they knew they were wrong
For down round the curve
of your banks
they could find
The ripping and roaring
you had on your mind
God placed those great rocks
not to hinder your flow,
But to buffet the years' wrath
'gainst your banks
and you know
Beneath your masquerade
I always saw the raging heart
I knew that your soul
merged with mine
from the start.

Pope Campbell
(c) 2006

*NOTES: If memory serves, Dog River begins
from a spring or springs in Carroll County, Ga.
Nice and mild in spots, great for wading,
7 miles of it turn into some medium-tough
white water! I grew up with it and the
Chattahoochee River (which it runs into)
playing a big part in my life.
