Hot Tub Company

Splashing in my hot tub alone
Cloudy skies made darkness blacker
Aches and pains were nearly gone
When suddenly, I heard a flutter.

Overhead, what’s flapping there?
It’s getting close, right through the fog!
I’m settled in for quite a scare
And by the way, where is my dog?

Neck craned back, I’m looking up and see
Open talons bared at me
A barn owl seeking out his sup’
Diving down from nearby tree.

I waved my arms up in the air
His wings they fluttered hard
He rose and I could only stare
In wonder I’d been left unscarred.

These poems, they always seem
To sneak a moral, evoke a groan
This one’s no exception, folks.
“Don’t go in the tub alone!"
