A Note From Ms. Doogie

November 6th. 2007

Dear Dad, or very best friend and the person that saved me from a terrible fate. My best friend and savior would fit. I'll just say Mark for now.

That aside I know it's been a year today that I left your tactile world. I know, this past year been really tough on you. It has been for me too, but like they say, all good things must end someday. I just wish it had been easier for both of us and not so sudden.

From here I see you in your moments. The moments, and sometimes not alone, when you can't hold back the tears thinking about us together. Latte' Dotte' will gradually make it better for you and fill the huge void in your heart I know you have felt since I've been gone. She's a sweet loving little girl and it just takes time. Time will heal your heart, but the beautiful memories of our times together will always be there in it.

I'm here safely, where you knew I'd be at The Rainbow Bridge. I've met up with Saginia, Sweet Evelina, Sport, Cognac, Misty Blue and even old Gray Cat along with many, many other wonderful friends that had loving partners or families along with a lot of them that had horrible life experiences. They've all forgiven those that treated them cruelly though and they ask our keepers here to tell the Big Boss to help change them so they'll perhaps be better pet lovers in the future.

That Gray Cat, he's still the snootiest thing that ever was, but I give him a good tumble and a roll in the grass ever time he's not paying attention to me. He'll learn? May be a long time though.

And Saginia, she laughs because you couldn't say Virginia, as you were too small. Remember? She was your first puppy. The one that later walked to the old Plemon’s grocery store nearby with you to get bubble gum when it first came out at the end of World War 2.

Evelina is still as smart as ever. Her vocabulary has greatly increased from near five hundred words to now over a thousand. She doesn't flaunt it though. If she hears a command to do anything she's on top of it whether it's picking up trash out of the yard and putting it into the trash can or fetching any number of things. Her and Sport set on point at everybody here. It really irritates everyone to have two big old german shorthairs locked in on'em all the time.

And Misty Blue, she still misses you and the fun y'all had after all these years. She's always telling me about the plane rides she was on with you all the time. The swooping in low over the cattle at the ranch, the deer near the house scattering off the dirt runway when y'all would approach to land. She led an exciting life with you.

Participating in the roundups, flying, riding in the truck or just being with you at all times was everything to her. She just wishes you'd have gotten over her much sooner and not have waited eighteen years to get another pup in your life. She knows the years of grief you wrestled with thinking of her. It was all a waste of a good, sharing life for you and another dog to have. After all there are so many out there that would love to have an adoring, loving partner like you. Oh, and being the blue heeler she is, she still watches everyone’s face like all conversations are with her. She does seem to be a mind reader.

She also told me about the time when you saw one of her hairs on the co-pilot seat after she had come to the Rainbow Bridge. You were shooting an approach into San Angelo. That was scary when you got so teary-eyed seeing just one of her hairs and thinking of her you couldn't even see the instruments. You did a safe go-around though and shot it right down on the numbers the second try. Explaining to your passengers was a little tough, but they understood and everything was fine. They just didn't realize what a pet lover you are.

That is a very beautiful red granite marble monument you had made for my gravesite. No one here can believe it. The porcelain pictures of me and Gray Cat playing, my picture of the oil portrait that you had made by Connie Bowen a couple of years after we came into each other’s lives are just beautiful. Your tribute inscribed on the face of it is so heartrending and we understand. Yes we all understand your love and devotion you had for all of us.

So here I am, still agonizing over your agonizing about me. Just be patient, the love of all of us are with you at all times, day and night. Even when you sleep we are all waiting for you so we can play together forever someday.

See'ya when'ya get here.
Love
Ms. Doogie, your loving baby.
