Christmas Decorations

As I sit and ponder
Deciding what to write
I try to capture happy thoughts
I try with all my might

For I promised Lou a poem
Filled with merriment and glee
A poem for the holidays
That could decorate a tree

And so this poem carries
A message of delight
Avoiding all those nasty thoughts
That could fill a soul with fright

There are baubles filled with wishes
That could fill a treasure chest
The ones that carry hope and love
Are the ones that I like best

And don't forget the strings of joy
Intertwining groups of friends
For friendships are the lifelines
On which my life depends

Then sprinkle on the family
For that emanating glow
Providing light throughout my days
As I watch my young ones grow

Top it with an angel
A guardian of love
To protect all those around me
With the forces from above

I guess I found my happy thoughts
Filled with merriment and glee
They are woven in my friendships
And immersed in family

So, to Lou, I must say, "Thank you!"
For prompting me to write
This poem filled with Christmas cheer
That evokes a merry sight
