NIGHT-LIGHT

By the late Eileen nee Earls Breen
March 27, 1916 – May 5, 2006
Poem number 15 of 21

NIGHT-LIGHT

Heather blazing on a hillside
Lighting up the night sky
Bringing visions of horsemen riding by

Turf fires blazing in little homesteads
Lighting up the faces of heartbroken parents
Bringing visions of children’s faces now entombed

Candles burning in little church shrines
Lighting up faces while lips petition
“Bring all safe home”

Flames illumining throughout the dark hours
Easing the sick bed, the sad, the alone
Shadows are fleeing
Birds are awaking
Rest and be thankful
Dawn has come.
