The music

When she was a little girl,
We used to sing together
All the songs on the radio,
And from her Barbie movies.

Somewhere along the way,
Her choices veered from mine
And our differences were vast,
About much more than
Just music.

She used to roll her eyes
And close her door behind her,
So she didn’t have to hear,
Whenever I turned on my stereo

She laughed at me,
Told me to “get in touch with TODAY, Mom”
And she'd make me listen to noise
From in her head phones

But just last week, I saw her
Wearing a “Led Zeppelin” sweatshirt.
When I asked her about it,
She rolled her eyes at me.

I caught her in my room today
Looking through my CD’s
And later on, I swear I heard
“Bon-Jovi” coming from her room.

Perhaps her path will
Run alongside mine
Again one day,
And we will once more
Agree on things
More important than
The music.
