A Child of God Tap-tapping like drum beats from a cautious march, the boy’s pale face follows my steps his cane meandering side to side through the aisle, and I watch hummingbird fingers poke at the shelves. He listens to the crinkle of a spaghetti package chin uplifted, grinning like a monkey mom’s proud of her son, turned ten today and ‘born again’ during last Sunday’s service. © Richard L. Provencher |
