I remember being down on my luck really bad and feeling I had no where else to go or no one to turn to. I was a single mother with 4 small children to take care of and I was living on welfare at the time. My life had been turned upside down and sideways. I had been in a bad relationship and had not made very wise decisions or choices. Then I met Richard and things started to change but I had to wonder if a man would want to be with me because I had 4 children and that was what people call excess baggage. I had 4 extra mouths to feed and take care of which meant more money to spend. But Richard was willing to let me and my children into his home and his life and he did not care what other people thought of him. He was willing to become an instant father to my children even though he knew I was not in love with him at first. He knew what kind of a person I was and what I had been through and he was still willing to be there for me and help me change my life and turn it around. It takes a special kind of person to do that. Of course I knew it would not be easy for either of us at first. But as the months and years went by it became clear to me that he loved us all and was going to be there for us no matter what and I did fall in love with him. But we did have struggles along the way but we were able to over come those and move on and raise our family. He was willing to give it his best shot at being a step parent and we both learned together about how difficult being a parent really is. Your mother or your father is the person that is there for you all the time through the good and the bad times not just once in a while.
