" A very Special Member Of The Family"

In 1989 we got the children a puppy. My husband found him in the paper. He had been dropped of as a stray. He was part german sheperd and part hound dog. I remember on the way home that day he used the bathroom on me because he was so nervous. We decided to name him Blackie because he was mostly the color black. It did not take long for him to adjust and become a great companion for the kids. He became very protective of the family and was a very good watch dog. The kids fell in love with him right away they had never had their own dog and they were real happy about having him around. He would go with us on family vacations and it did not take long for him to start growing really big. My husband was really close to Blackie and loved him dearly. But after about 7 years we had to get rid of him he was getting real old and honory and too hard to control. We hated to lose our family companion it was like losing a member of the family. It was hard because we had raised Blackie from 8 weeks old and he was just as much a part of our family as anyone else was. It took a little time to get over him and we have not had a pet of our own since my son's dog Shelby came into our lives 2 and a half years ago and we are already very attached to her. She has a lot of the same qualities that Blackie had and makes us think of him from time to time. I know I will always keep a place for Blackie in my heart.
