Better Late Than Never

We all dream of graduating from High School and maybe even going to college. We all definitely want our driver's license by the time we are 18 or younger, right. But,what do you do if these things don't happen for you. Do you give up on them? Or do you make these things happen for you no matter what your age. I dropped out of high school 3 months in the 11th grade. I started having children at a young age and was doing nothing with my life. I was at a dead end and down in the gutter. I had been living on welfare and already had been through 2 bad relationships. I was a mother of 5 children with no education. I decided I needed to do something with my life. I met a special person who was willing to help me do just that. The first thing I did was pick up and move from where I was living. I guess that I had hoped to leave all my pain and hurt behind me. I got a job,it was a low paying job but it would grow into a career. I had to work the night shift for almost 2 years. This was difficult for the children. But with 4 children at home affording a babysitter was too expensive. Right away the opportunity arose at my job to move up and I took it. When my youngest child was old enough for preschool I was able to work the day shift. But in order to do this I would need my driver's license. I failed the written test the first time around. My husband and children still tease me about that. I did not give up though,I took the test again and passed it. I was so proud that I could finally drive my own self to town. At the age of 27 I had my driver's license for the first time in my life. The year is 1990 and things are looking good for me, I used my days off to go study for my G.E.D. and recieved it in November 1990. The wonderful man who had entered my life 5 years before this became my husband on April 6,1990. I had finally been able to help provide for my children and found a very special man who loved me for me. His name is Richard and he was willing to help raise 4 children who were not his. I was able to forget about the hurt and pain that I had been enduring for the last 15 years of my life. This is a true story and it just goes to show that you can change your life. A very special person was willing to love me and help me get out of the gutter and the cycle of welfare. He was also willing to help me raise my children, which was something their real father would not do. I love you very much Richard.
