March 15,2006; The Chase In today's Police Report section of The Daily Sentinel, I found out about the fence-jumping guy who police pursued through our backyard into the woods last night. The report said the man had chased a woman out of their residence, pulled her hair, and hit her in the head with a beer bottle. ( Seeing him emerge from a neighbor's bush, I thought the four officers were after a burglar. I yelled at him and told him to keep moving-- trying to use my best pit bull voice.) It's sure a sad, maddening world sometimes; makes me identify with the lines about the bird in Rabindranath Tagore's poem,"A Stressful Time": "Where's that nest, branch that offers shelter? Yet bird, o my bird, already blind, don't fold your wings yet." |
