Dear folks

I am writing this letter to let you no that I am fine at present time and hoping that these few lines may find you enjoying the same.

Will Crum is well at present. Jacob Shafer is fine and me and him has lots of fun to gether. When I was sick Jacob helped treat me to all that (can't read). Jacob is going home soon.

The captain says we will be paid off day after to morrow. I will try to send some money home. We will go up the river when we get paid off. I hope we will. I hante got but one letter from home. I have got a letter and some shirts to send home but I don't know wheather to send them or not. I am afraid it wouldn't pay. It would take so much to send some. I will send this when I can and sent the money home.

We have plenty to eat. When we want fresh meat we go out on what we call foreign. We git all the chickens and hogs we want. I have about quit swearing and I am going to try to be up to my word but it is a hard thing to do here among the boys for all kind of words is used here. I cant think of any more to right.
