Salem

Salem

Lying snugly upon the cushion, purring as she slept,
"Salem dreamed", and in this dream, she saw the butterfly.
It's gossamer wings fluttered past her, she reached out,
As if to caress the butterfly, as it fluttered past.

Nothing bothered her as she drempt.
In that quiet place between being asleep, and awake,
She rolled over, letting the sun flow across her bare tummy.
She was content in the world surrounding her.

As she rolled over the little silver bell that hung from
Her collar rang out. But to her there was not a sound.
Drifting in and out of sleep, she would wash her face,
With her dampened paw. Then sink back down into
The warm concave she had made upon the cushion.

As sleep overtook her once more , the butterfly came again.
She caressed it softly, and then ignored it as it drifted away.
"Another time" she thought. Some other day when the sun
Was not so comforting to her? The scent of the cushion surrounded her.
She was contented and at peace, and free from harm.
