I wanted to let everyone know that my mother passed away on Thursday, November 9th. Although I had prepared myself for this event for over a year, the reality of it is still very surreal. The old house seems very quiet these days and I still expect to see her turn the corner with her gentle smile.

There were a lot of heroes in the last months, though I certainly wasn’t one of them. The hospice center provided exceptional care throughout the ordeal. On a family level, my brother carried most of the load. He took a leave of absence from work and stayed with my mother night and day for the last 10 days - almost never leaving her side. I’m the youngest in the family and my role has always been “comic relief”. I haven’t found much use for the job recently.

I would like to personally thank everyone for their support over the last few months. I am continually impressed by the individuals that frequent OurEcho. The technical term for sites like OurEcho is “virtual community”, but for me, “family” seems to fall a lot closer to the mark.
