The Eyes Of Father Margil,1717 A year after Mission Guadalupe was built Father Margil and his comrades were returning from a trip it was hot August weather and Lanana Creek was dry but Spanish legend has it that their thirst was satisfied. Father Margil went up the creek alone and knelt to pray just as he had prayed with Indians along the way then like Moses in the desert he tapped the rock with his cane and from the barren Texas ground the water of life did rain. They rejoiced in the coolness of the holy springs tasted the pure miracle on their weary lips and though that band later made their way to the Rio Grande what they left behind in Nacogdoches is flowing still. No drought has ever been able to dry out "The Eyes Of Father Margil." |
