I am privaleged to have attended a one room country school when a child. It was indeed quite an experience. Ours had no bell as pictured with your story. The teacher used a hand held bell, which she shook vigorously while standing on the door stoop.

For me, a bit of nostalgia.

My dad could have written this story! Oh, the tales he has told me over the years...well done Miss Kathe!

Amen and amen! The photo would make a wonderful painting...should you take a notion and pick up a brush. As you will discover in chapter one, I attended a school that still followed some of the practices of those old one-roomed schoolhouses; but what you described could have come from my mother's lips. Well-written, as always. Barbara
