Wow! Maybe your former pen-pal will read this again. This site goes world-wide you know. Your four seasonal pictures add so much to your story that is very descriptive in it's own right.

What a treasure. This is a beautifully written piece. Hard to believe a 17 year old could write like that. I'm 72 and I can't write like that.

As Carol's big sis, I'm proud to verify this story. I am 10 years older than Carol and at that time I was married with four children and lived not far from my folks and her. Our parents were so proud. I never tried to get published until I was 62. But I know the feeling you get when you see your words in print for the first time. And to think Carol had to wait four years to get a comment. Gail

Whoa!! Exceptional prose from a seventeen year old or from a seventy year old. Had to read a couple of times to get full effect. Pictures great too. When I was seventeen it was something just to string three sentences together - and I had just learned to tie my shoes...

Wonderfully written---I can see this as a picture book for children, decribing the four seasons as you bring them to life as colorful charactors.

No wonder you won that magazine contest at age 17. Some English teachers cannot even pen such descriptive, interesting essays. Carol, you truly made each season so alive!

Thanks for your comments, Sandi in FL. I still feel an "entity" in the seasons. Our seasons on the coast of Texas are not as distinct as in Kansas, and sometimes it seems like we have 6 or 7 alternative versions--summer jumping back now and then in all of the others.
