Lovely story, Nancy, and I surely do see the resemblance between your grandmother and you, especially in the eyes. I love that you included the recipe. Such a sweet memory! That's what it's all about, isn't it ... keeping our relatives alive in our hearts by remembering the ways they made sure we would never forget.

Oh yummy yum yum, Nancy. I can almost taste those muffins, but relate to your hop, skip, and jump up the stairs following the aroma of your love on a plate. How beautiful those memories. I too never settled for school lunch. I walked with a gang of kids to our mother's and grandmother's homemade soups and sands. How lucky we were, hu? Kath

What a delightful story of your youthful memory! Nice tribute to your grandmother, your mother, and to a way of life I'm sorry youngsters these days will never know. It's great you've included the recipe! Carol

Hi Nancy,
If it wasn't so late, I'd go buy some dates and make your grandmoher's muffins! I have all the other ingredients in my kitchen, and my mouth is watering after reading your story and then her famous recipe. What a delightful surprise to find the recipe at the end, akin to a prize at the bottom of a box of cereal or Cracker Jacks!
Thanks for sharing such a delicious memory. Pass the plate of muffins my way!
Blessings,
Sandi in FL.
P.S. Your grandmother was very pretty.

Hope you'll get some dates when you go to the store and try the muffins. They freeze well. I pop one or two out as needed and microwave them just to thaw and warm a bit. Enjoy!
