The Beauty of the silver coat is a lovely story. We had a beautiful pet donkey up to a few years ago. We got him at six months old, and like Bertha, he loved his sweet treats. He answered to Donks. As he grew older, though very attached to me, he somehow grew uneasy. We were told he needed a companion, and that they should not really be alone.
I had to part with him to a home where there was two more donkeys, I was broken hearted, and missed him so much. Later I was happy that he settled, and know that it was best for him in the company of other donkeys, though I still miss him.

Your story brought back such sweet memories.

Hi Veronica,
I'm chuckling at myself for initially thinking that Bertha was a woman, not a donkey! Your description of her silver coat had me yearning for one like it, even though nobody wears coats here in south Florida where I reside!
Thanks for taking an ordinary subject and injecting such color, light and life into it that readers don't want the story to end. Good piece of writing, Veronica.
Sincerely,
Sandi in FL.
