In addition to enjoying your story immensely, I like the title! As we age, I believe our hearts get bigger and bigger, as we have more and more to remember. A splendid remembrance of your growing-up years. Carol

What a lot of happy memories you have, Maria, of your growing up years. The love and warmth of your family made up for not having the riches some dream of. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations on your win for this one. I felt as though I was there with your beloved Finnish family. You have made it so clear how you adore them all just by the tone of your beautiful story. How lovely to be able to share your recollections with all your family. Kath

An amazing story, what beautiful memories you have. As an only child, you made me realize how much I missed out on not having brothers and sisters. I went to a college where Finnish was spoken, and that has been awhile ago, so forgive me if this is not correct:

Congratulations MARIA!
AND HEY! You all wern't so different. We didn't always have to save aLL the wrapping paper down here in GA, but I do believe I recall my Momma IRONING A piece or 2 through the years!
Actually, there were lots of similarities! Amazing, isnt' it!
GOD BLESS!

I just read your story for the very first time and loved it, Maria. Your fond family remembrances are heartwarming, delightful and vivid. Special times are not soon forgotten, and yes, they are what the heart remembers.

Maria, this was such a trip down memory lane as it reminded me of how things were during a few of the holidays I got to share in years past when I was a kid.

Funny, but my partner is of Finnish/Denmark heritage. I couldn't ask for a better one.

Oh, I've got to have the recipe for the carrot-turnip casserole since I've been searching all my life for a way to prepare cooked turnips so that I could stand to eat them.
Thanks and Regards
