Nice posting, Virginia. These memories of the simple things in life, like moms preparing meals for families, are the kinds of things we need to leave for future generations to know more about our lifetime eras than what the history books show. I remember when the TV dinners first came out, too. Really poor quality as far as flavor goes, but it was definitely an innovation. My husband's mother was the child of a German immigrant family in central Illinois, and she said they ate potatoes in some form three times a day and seven days a week. Good to fill up 9 kids and a mom and dad. Thanks for a good read.

Ah, how I miss those meals my mother fixed! My cooking always falls far, far short of her culinary efforts. I console myself with the fact that she had "real" food to start with: from the garden and homegrown, no preservatives. More recently I long for Sister Gail's chicken and noodles, and Brother-in-law Clyde's pizza. Carol
