What an enjoyable travelogue! Informational and entertaining from history about Indians, cultural activities available, city fun, and I love the tallgrass prairie data. Makes one want to head out for a road trip, camera in hand.

Thanks so much for all the information! You're right - most folks don't give much thought to the state of Kansas. Even as long as I've been away, I still think of it as home, and guess I always will.

You've almost got me convinced I should leave my pristine mountain and pay those lovely grasslands a visit. Do you put folks up overnight? K

Well, your finely penned piece makes me want to come for a visit! You should submit this for a travelogue brochure of your area, seriously.
I'll be traveling west from GA to CO soon but my planned route is south of Manhattan. Perhaps, another time!

Hi Susan,

This piece did end up being published in a tourist newspaper called Kansas Traveler. However, it was an article with several authors participating, so part of my article was combined with others. It turned out to be a nice article, pictures and all.

Driving from Georgia to Colorado is one long drive. Sorry you won't be coming through Manhattan but perhaps another time. Meanwhile, do enjoy the beauty and wonderful summer climate in Colorado. And a safe journey to you.

Manhattan sounds like a lovely place to visit. A funny thing happened the other day. Working at the courthouse as I do, I opened my mail to find a speeding ticket from one of the state troopers working I-70 through our county. That nice speeder's address was Manhattan, Kansas. I immediately thought of you. I'm happy the last name wasn't Kopp.
