It's pretty much the same in the UK, Frederick. One party got rid of a leader because the press painted him as too old. Since when was age a bar to wisdom? I'd have thought that was a plus! One recent party leader suffered in the polls because he wore a baseball hat to a rally. Another party leader was touted as good looking enough to attract the female vote.
The current speaker of the House of Commons has long suffered because he comes from a working class Glasgow background!
In the thousands of years since democracy began we haven't really moved on very far, have we?

Thank ou for your insight and the information re: England. I know it is similar too in Canada and Australia. Probably in other countries too, and I know there is a lot of it going on in Isreal as well. Just human nature I suppose, but after centuries, one would think people could wise up after a while. When you mentioned my bio, I wondered if you meant the short version or the spotlight feature. That one is in much more detail. You can access it by clicking "more" at the bottom of the current spotlight on the home page, then click the button to access the list of all f the spotlight features, find my name and click on it for a better overall view. Thanks for your comments.

For sure Mark, but the difference is that you have to run your business with your own money. They run the country with ours. I makes a big difference in the outlook of how things are managed. Thatnks for the comment.

Fred, you've hit the nail on the ol' proverbial head. Your comments have that ring of truth to them that we readers have thought but may not have shared here. Heaven help us in this circus of an election come November '08.
Sure hope this finds you feeling better and stronger as each day comes and goes. ~ Susan
