It would be nice if everyone would feed the birds. It would also be nice if no dog had to spend the winter outside. To those who see a neighbor's dog outside, keep an eye out . If he doesn't have a decent shelter or food and water--please report it to the authorities. Our humane group has seen too many dogs freeze to death. It is despicable. Vicki P.

Thanx Vicki. Good advice. Sadly, most people tend to ignore situations
such as you described.

Those having dog houses should remember to provide some bedding. Some use old blankets, etc., but they need to be changed every two or three days as they absorb moisture and become very cold. Straw is the best if available, but it to needs to be replaced with new every couple of days. I also pity cows and horses left out in the open all winter long without proper shelter. It should be outlawed. People who can't afford, or simply won't take proper care of an animal should never have one in the first place.

Yes, you are right that horses and cows
suffer too from the elements. If only
we would extend to them the same concern we have for our own comfort. Is that too much to ask?

Hi Suzana,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions about this important matter. Whenever I read about feeding the birds, it reminds me of my dear, sweet mother who always saved bread crusts and crumbs to toss out into our back yard to do precisely what you mentioned: "feed the birds". To this day many long years later, I save bread crusts and do just that.
Blessings,
Sandi in FL.

Thank you Sandi for caring about the birds. Last year I was told about a bread outlet nearby and now get my bread for 12 cents a loaf. Imagine - I was paying $1.40 or more a loaf and now I will find it so much easier to buy the large cans of peanut butter as well as the vegetable oil to coat the bread cubes. I believe they could well use the warmth of both of these products in our sometimes harsh Cleveland winters.
