This is a tender, sometimes raw, tender, loving story. The care reversal from mother to child and child to mother is beautiful. I'd like to know more about the success or lack of success of such marriages. Was there a mutual gain? A quid pro quo? Veronica

Very beautiful, very sad... My father must have weighed 100 lbs when he died. You write beautifully Zofia.

A beautiful piece of writing, Zofia. The love you had for your mother comes through loud and clear. A tender, heart-tugging story.

Veronica,it was a solid marriage, duty and commitment, both working hard and pulling as a team, divorce never mentioned. It was another era. No romantic show of affection but I sure was certain that neither of them would ever leave. Loved them both. Zofia

Thank you Zofia. So beautifully written--so painfully told and shared.
I could never be so brave as to tell your story as you did. You have a Polish mother - I a Slovak one, so we
both have something in common. From mine I learned to love the daily liturgy and love of the Blessed Virgin. Marriage was not in my cards
but I have no regrets as I'm sure you
have none as well.

Thank you, Suzana. Both my parents were Lithuanian but my mother had a Polish grandfather and she also spoke Polish. I did get married when I was 21 and have three grown sons. You would like Mexico -- the Virgin of Guadalupe is the most loved religious figure here. Zofia

Well, Zofia, I jumped the gun. I guess I thought your mom was Polish because she was in a Polish nursing home. However, I'm glad your ethnicity
is cleared up. Thanx for noting my love of the Blessed Virgin and yes, I'm aware of Our Lady of Guadalupe. You are probably not Catholic but Our
Lady is loved and revered under many titles. My favorites our -Our Lady of Sorrows (the patron saint of Slovaks) and our Lady of Perpetual Help - loved ered by most Byzantine Catholics of whom I am one.

Zophia,

Your voice is unique. I love the way your writing always sounds so immediate, intimate, and yet detached in a philosophical sort of way. I enjoy hearing you read at the writers' group.

Thank you, Bill. I also enjoy your readings at the writers group. And I like your take on life, in your poems, that comes from an open heart. Zofia

Life is so full-circle. You have written a beautiful story about life, love, relationships--filled with hope, loss, disappointments, and not giving up in spite of circumstances. This is so tender and sensitive yet an honest revelation of eventual decline if we should be blessed to live that long. I appreciate your caring, loving way of sharing such a delicate story. Janet
