I'm a firm believer in children growing up without a room full of toys. Poor isn't all bad, it is a great breeding ground for imagination. BJ

BJ, I agree entirely. We never missed toys or $100 sneakers and concerts. We had each other. The street was filled with friends every day and life was never dull.

I think you turned out OK. Bent but OK. Good story without a lot of extras.

"Bent"! I love it. I'm okay, right. And you're okay too, I'm sure. Someone should write a book about that.

Jim,

This is very vivid. I can imagine you having these experiences as a kid. I grew up in Philadelphia, and your accent reminds me of many childhood friends. Great piece. I imagine this was the one you would have read at the writers group had your printer been working? Bill

Bill, Thanks. Yes, this is the one I would have read that day. It's one in a series of stories about growing up in the inner city in Wilmington, Delaware. I've done them for my children, grandchildren and whoever else comes along.
