Now that was a funny story! I have seen those cute little critters begging for food at my brother's back door. My mother-in-law had a possum encounter. She fell asleep watching Johnny Carson and woke up to the sound of the trash can falling over...in the kitchen! Fortunately, the broom was handy. Thanks for the laugh! BJ

Thanx heaps. One of my faves as well, especially since all's well that ended well. Was a scary time there for awhile.....K

Kathe - This one was a great reproachful story gently warning us animal lovers to be respectful and wary of those critters less domesticated than our house-bound four-legged children. Judging by the pictures that accompanied this story, I can most certainly see how you and Ken were quickly lured into their innocent-looking, huggable paws.

I really did enjoy this story - I guess the moral here is to leave wildlife where God intended - in the wilds. But it is hard not to 'think' one is helping these adorable animals, especially when they appear in your yard or on your doorstep. Hart Dowd

SO ENJOYABLE.. SHE IS QUITE A WOMEN !!! MORE LIKE THE OLD TRUE PIONEERS OF THE AMERICAN WEST.. IF WE HAD AN ENTIRE COUNTRY FULL OF WOMEN LIKE HER AMERICA WOULD STILL BE AMERICA HOLDING HER HEAD HIGH AND THE REST OF THE WORLD ADMIRING HER.
WE WOULDN'T HAVE A SHAMEFUL CONGRESS AND SENATE AND CREATURES LIKE HILLARY RUNNING FOR THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE WORLD..
I HOPE GOD GIVES KATHE AT LEAST 25 MORE YEARS !!.

Loved this story about Raccoons! You are such a good writer, Kathe. My raccoon story goes this way: One used to come and eat at my stray-cat dish on our veranda. At first I thought it was cute. But later I chased him away. I couldn't afford to feed 6 indoor cats and 5 strays (at the time) as well as a greedy raccoon. Then one day, lo and behold, one of the stray female cats, that I knew was to have kittens, disappeared - dragged away, obviously by that raccoon. The cat left two orphaned two-week-old kittens, both of which had striped tails. I rescued the kittens from under our house. One I gave to a neighbour, the other I adopted. He is now 2 years old (the stipes in his tale have now disappeared). I jokingly say his father was that raccoon, as he is such a RASCAL, but a great delight. Helen Dowd

Yes I know all to well about these stinkers I too have had experience with these little critters, like you I too left dog food out for one and before I knew it I had three young one and an old one with one limb gone the three had brought the older one to eat.if I didn't leave food out they would come knock on the sliding door to let me know that is time to eat and if I didn't they would turn the porch up side down searching for their dogie food, Yes these little devils are cute but they are better left to the out doors to enjoy their surroundings.I love the wild life also but have learn it is better to enjoy it at a distance...Margaret of Soap Lake Washington

Yes, my wild critters are always reminding me not to interfer in their lives much in the same way your raccoon's did. But they are just so cute and I'm succored in every time. In my defense, I didn't try to tame the wild cougar that comes through periodically. As always I loved the story and got a big laugh out of it. Wanda West

Extremely good and funny. I would have loved to have been there and witnessed this spectacular site.

It's hard not to be involved with them, and I know it was difficult for you to let go.

Well, Kathe--you made me laugh again!! I am reminded of the raccoons that our friends in Nova Scotia had plaguing them for weeks. They could NOT get them to go elsewhere. So-Frank decided to put Tobasco Sauce on everything that was out such as the garbage bin, the BBQ, and leaving two slices of Tobasco saturated bread on the step of the house. He figured this would do the trick once and for all.
WRONG!
In the middle of the night they were awakened by a strange sound. They looked out the window to see six of the chubbiests raccoons ever slurping water from their swimming pool!!
We laugh at that still. They're not stupid-and needless to say the 'Tobasco Project' never was pursued. I have to send her this one of your interaction with the 'cunning coons'!!
Great one once again Granny!!
