The imprisonment of someone who is innocent is a terrible thing, and it does happen far more pften than we think. People do make mistakes. It is for this reason that I, even though I was a cop for 25 years, continue to believe there should not be a death penalty. When someone is proven innocent, they can always be released from prison. When someone who is innocent has been executed there is no way they can be given back their life.

I agree Fred. Thank God we are finally
moving in that direction. I applaud
the Illinois Governor who a few years back had the courage to stay the executions in his state because of the views you stated. Sadly, I don't know how his political career ended. I believe there was some sort of scandal involved in a different area and he was not returned as governor.
