It's no wonder this story was published, Veronica. It's a masterpiece of visual prose. Beautiful phrases throughout as well. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Bravo!

Nancy, I always value your interest and comments. This is such a rural story of times long ago. I wrote this story for Uncle Eric when he was dying from prostate cancer at age 82 a few years ago. My memory of his Saturday shaves amused him and gave him much happiness at the end of his days. Veronica

Oh to be nine years old again. Your detail of one special time in your life is precious. Most of us try to cover too much time in one writing and miss the small worth while stuff. Gail

Dear Gail,

Thanks for your comments about the importance of staying with the simple everyday experiences. This was the first story I wrote to a favorite Uncle a few months before he died. The family enjoyed it so much, it got me started on writing other little profiles of family members. Veronica

I too loved watching my dad rhythmically sharpening his razor on the strop, as he called it. What a grand story you told of Uncle Eric. I embrace each of your writings with such joy. Kathe

Hi Veronica,
I savor each word in your stories, because you write with such an uncanny talent for vivid details! Uncle Eric must have been quite a character, and I'm delighted that he knew about your loving tribute to him.
When I was quite young and would ask my Daddy where he was going if it was not to the office, his usual reply was, "I'm going to see a man about a typewriter." That remark always perplexed me, since he never brought home that typewriter. A dog would have aroused my curiosity more!
Keep up the splendid writing,
Sandi in FL.
