That is a great piece Michael, and good insight on making friends. I learend that many years ago when I started out in the ministry. Always look people in the eye and learn their name. It is a wonderful thing to find knew friends that way.

I live in New Jersey now, Don, but the part about me talking to my boss took place in Dublin, Ohio.
Small world, isn't it.

I worked at Qwest then.
I love that area and wish I was still there. Qwest slumped; I got laid off, and moved to Jersey.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Great message here, Michael. We all enjoy a bit of attention, and you've found an easy way to fulfill that need and reap the benefit of making a friend along the way, as well. So simple, so why don't more people do it?

Thank you, Nancy.
It's how I am. I love to talk to people.
It embarrasses my son. He just has to learn what it is all about.

Every Sunday, at both services, our pastor has everyone stand and greet the people around them. It's a good way to meet people, but if you don't introduce yourself you may not get their names.

I love pieces like this where you can take away a concrete action that will benefit you and others. I live in Worcester, Ma and people in the northeast don't seem as accostomed to being all that friendy with strangers. Luckily my husband and I did get the "friendly gene" for Northerners. I remember when my friend was visiting from Texas and walked up to a complete stranger and said "My, that blouse you have on is mightly lovely." The woman looked at her in shock and horror. Your piece reminded me of that and made me chuckle.

Thanks for sharing. Great advice.

Thank you, Lisa.
I'm from a small fishing village in Nova Scotia. I was born with the friendly gene.
I talk to everyone.
I spend a lot of time in New York City. You'd be surprised at the number of people who talk back. It's not as nasty in the city as people think.
