Great memories! I couldn't have said it better. I remember the old panel truck that grandpa brought home & left by the back gate and we played in it as if it was a doll house. One time when we were visiting I found a pair of old wooden (termite eaten) stirrups and asked grandpa if I could keep them. I used them for years as part of my western theme decorations in the living room of our home.

Oh Ginger! What a splendid visit back in time to my parent's farm home! and my home in my teen years. I helped Daddy build that stone fireplace, gathering flatish rocks in the nearby creek. I pressed my "Indian bead" collection (fossilized fish vertebraes mostly, along with a few arrowheads and spear points, found in the stream bed on my sister Melba's farm) into the still-damp concrete between the rocks. I slept on a cot on that cool screened porch in the summer. The cemetery was also a favorite play spot for me. I buried a pet rabbit and a favorite cat in there, too, when they died. Made a little marker with sticks. Ah, memories! Good writing. Aunt Carol

Hi Ginger,
Yes, I remember Pretty Penny and how she could rattle off the phone number when the phone rang. All so thought it was great fun how she would drop bobby pins off Aunt Ruth's dressing table!

Melba Lu, it would be so wonderful to see some of your family memories posted here. I bet your family would love reading them too.

Virginia,

Congratulations on your vivid piece about visiting your grandparents' farm in the summer. I enjoyed the examples of creative play and discovery from using things around the house and I can taste the little green apples. It brough back memories of my grandmother's plum trees when I lived with her on a small farm. Veronica Breen Hogle

Wonderful story. It made me remember my own childhood of exploring and playing for hours outside in the neighborhood.

Here's an email comment from my sister:
"Sure enjoyed your story about our grand-parents. What memories it brought back, so glad you took the time to write them down. I’m like you that as we age we tend to forget some of the little things…..that meant so much to us at the time. Grandpa Clarence gave me insight on loving the LORD and the importance of worship."

A beautiful story of family, Virginia. How I wish I had been raised on a farm as my wife, Esther was. My dad was. My daughter has a ranch in Alberta and we will be visiting there for two weeks commencing Sept 10, my 66th birthday. They raise miniature cattle, Dexters, although they are not tall they are very wide. Need big feet like mine to hold them up. Your story is full of memories, good ones it seems. Richard LP
